The Marshel varietal generated considerable interest when it won the Peru Cup of ExcellenceCup of Excellence (COE)A national competition and auction that identifies a country's best lots each year; winning 'COE' lots command dramatic price premiums. in 2019 with an impressive score of 92.28, outperforming more established winning varietals such as GeshaGesha (Geisha)A rare, jasmine-and-bergamot scented variety originally from Ethiopia's Gesha forest, made famous by Panama's Hacienda La Esmeralda. Routinely the most expensive coffee at auction.. The genetic lineage of this coffee is still debated but it is most likely a rare Catimor-derived varietal. What is clear is that it appears to be highly disease resistant, which is unusual for a varietal capable of producing such exceptional cup quality.
