Jose Guillermo 'Epe' Alvarez is the fourth-generation owner of Finca Malacara. It is one of the most venerable coffee estates in El Salvador and is located in Santa Ana, one of the most celebrated coffee regions in all of Central America. We accompanied Epe when he first planted the seeds of this elegant Kenyan SL-28SL28A Kenyan variety selected in the 1930s by Scott Agricultural Laboratories, prized for intense blackcurrant acidity and deep sweetness. to complement the flavors produced by the BourbonBourbonOne of the two foundational arabica varieties (with Typica), named after Île Bourbon (Réunion). Sweet, balanced, caramel-leaning; parent of countless modern cultivars. plants that have been cultivated on the farm since 1888. We have had the honor of offering it every year since it came into production. This marks the eleventh year that we are offering Malacara's SL-28, and it is a tradition we plan to continue for years to come.
