Tasting notes
A couple of years ago, we had the privilege to discover Celso and Gertrudes coffee through our export partner - FAF (Fazenda Ambiental Fortaleza). And what a find this has been. Celso and Gertrudes are a husband and wife superstar duo who produce coffee on their farm Sitio Boa Vista that sits atop the Zani Mountain Valley, overlooking the town of Caconde. FAF is another story. It was founded by Felipe Croce, international specialty coffee expert and judge. Its philosophy is straight to the point: “Promoting total quality and finding other farmers with the same desire to sell better coffee around the world, sustainably”. Sitio Boa Vista has been working together with FAF since its conception, back when just a few believed in specialty coffee coming out of Brazil. In 2006, Celso and Gertrudes were producing commodity level coffee; nowadays they run one of the best farms in the state of São Paulo and have been placed amongst the 50 Best Coffees out of Brazil in the Cup of ExcellenceCup of Excellence (COE)A national competition and auction that identifies a country's best lots each year; winning 'COE' lots command dramatic price premiums.. This lot is the result of more than good terroirTerroirBorrowed from wine: the way a place — soil, altitude, climate, even neighboring crops — expresses itself in the cup, independent of variety and process. and meticulous picking and processing. The secret to their success? Gertrudes once answered this question by saying: “Carinho e amor” - affection and love.
