Located on the slopes of Mount Kenya in Embu County, Oneska is a family-run coffee farm established in the early 1990s by Onesmus Njagi and his spouse, Karen. The estate takes its name from a combination of the couple's first names—Ones(mus) and Ka(ren). Across ten carefully cultivated acres, the farm grows primarily SL28SL28A Kenyan variety selected in the 1930s by Scott Agricultural Laboratories, prized for intense blackcurrant acidity and deep sweetness., SL34SL34SL28's sibling selection, also from Kenya's Scott Labs. Slightly less celebrated but hardier, with a similar juicy, complex cup., and GeshaGesha (Geisha)A rare, jasmine-and-bergamot scented variety originally from Ethiopia's Gesha forest, made famous by Panama's Hacienda La Esmeralda. Routinely the most expensive coffee at auction. varieties, making it an ideal candidate for the Retro 1984 project. Similar to several prior releases from the project last year, this lot features a blendBlendCoffees from multiple origins roasted or mixed together for a consistent, balanced profile year-round — the traditional backbone of espresso menus. of SL28 and SL34, two iconic Kenyan varieties known for their exceptional cup quality. In the cup we find bright red fruit including pomegranate and redcurrant, as well as juicyAcidityThe bright, lively, fruit-like sensation in coffee — praise, not a flaw. Citric sparkle, malic apple-crispness, tartaric wine notes; light roasts preserve more of it. Meyer lemon, and a base of sweet toffee and vanilla.
