Region: Bujumbura Elevation: 1100 masl VarietyVariety (cultivar)The botanical subtype of the coffee plant — Gesha, Bourbon, SL28 — analogous to grape varieties in wine. A major driver of cup character alongside origin and process.: Red BourbonBourbonOne of the two foundational arabica varieties (with Typica), named after Île Bourbon (Réunion). Sweet, balanced, caramel-leaning; parent of countless modern cultivars. Process: NaturalNatural processThe whole cherry is dried with the fruit still on the seed. Gives heavier body and big fruit flavors — think berries and wine — sometimes with a fermenty edge. Notes: Chocolate, dried fig, mango, & wild berries About: Kirasa was originally a government-run mill established in 1992, but in 2012 it was purchased by Succam Exports with the aim of producing higher-quality coffee and better supporting the local farmers. The mill is located right on the Kirasa river and nestled on all sides by rolling green hills. This is station manager Emile's second year processing naturals. They were great last year, and this year they are even better. This coffee is complex but still very balanced.
