Region: Santa Clara, Renacimiento , Chiriqui Elevation: 1,800 masl About: The Hartmann family are one of Panama's pioneers of specialty coffee. Their story starts two generations ago with Alois Hartmann, who settled in Panama in 1912. His son, Ratibor , established Finca Hartmann with 100 hectares of virgin rainforest he inherited from his father. Today, the land is shared by Ratibor’s five children, who have gradually added more land to the family estate. Finca Gua r u m o is one such addition, owned by Allan and Ratibor Hartmann, with their wives, Tessie and Elke. In 2016, when the Hartmann’s purchased the small 4-hectare farm, it was used as pasture for grazing cattle, they’ve since allowed the native vegetation to take back the land. The farm is planted exclusively with GeishaGesha (Geisha)A rare, jasmine-and-bergamot scented variety originally from Ethiopia's Gesha forest, made famous by Panama's Hacienda La Esmeralda.
