At the highest point of El Pital, Huila, Maria Damaris Medina and her husband Wilson Villaquira grow coffee on their farm Santa Elena. Both grew up farming coffee, learning from their parents before them, and began their careers with a tiny plot of less than 1 hectare. Santa Elena now occupies 7 hectares, and the pair have a sharp focus on improving quality as opposed to quantity. They recently replaced older CaturraCaturraA natural dwarf mutation of Bourbon found in Brazil: compact plants, easier picking, bright and clean cup. A workhorse across Latin America. trees with the ever popular Pink BourbonBourbonOne of the two foundational arabica varieties (with Typica), named after Île Bourbon (Réunion). Sweet, balanced, caramel-leaning; parent of countless modern cultivars., with the intention of elevating the standards of their coffees.
