Character

The Hartmann family are among Panama’s pioneers of specialty coffee , for over 100 years they’ve worked the land in harmony with nature and have become one of the most respected names in coffee. Their story began four generations ago with Alois Hartmann, who settled in Panama in 1912. His son, Ratibor , established Finca Hartmann on 100 hectares of virgin rainforest inherited from his father. Today, the land is shared by Ratibor’s five children ( Ratibor , Allan, Alexander, Kelly, and Aliss) and grandchildren. The rainforest has been preserved, with coffee grown under the shade of the canopy, and the family continues to plant native trees to ensure the health of the ecosystem. The land is also renowned for birdwatching, with around 300 species recorded. It’s no surprise, then, that their coffee carries the Bird Friendly certification. We’ve been buying G eisha from the Hartmann family for as long as we’ve existed as a company – in fact, the first coffee we ever sourced directly from Panama, was a G eisha from Finca Hartmann . This washed Geisha is a classic expression of the variety and terror that we’ve grown to love over all these years. All coffee producers in their own right, with their own farms and projects, Finca Hartmann is where the entire Hartmann family comes together to continue the legacy that their father (and grandfather) started, all those years ago. How to Drink: Just like you wouldn't add soda to your best whiskey, this amazing coffee is meant to be drank black with no sugar or cream.
