Character
Over the years, we have carried several of Long Miles’ coffees from Burundi. We like to separate these into two categories: Specialty coffees, and a category that communicates something higher than simply specialty coffees (80+ scores). This Mutana microlotMicrolotA small, separately processed and traded parcel of coffee — often a single day's picking from one plot — kept apart because it's exceptional., would surely be the latter of those two. This specific lot had only ~1300 lbs available, and with it’s lemon-lime acidityAcidityThe bright, lively, fruit-like sensation in coffee — praise, not a flaw. Citric sparkle, malic apple-crispness, tartaric wine notes; light roasts preserve more of it., sparkly mouthfeelBodyThe weight and texture of coffee in the mouth, from tea-like and delicate to syrupy and heavy. Driven by process, roast, variety, and brew method., and sweet full bodied finish, this coffee is both a must try from the Long Miles selection, and the epitome of of the potential of the Heza wash station. Our recommendation happens to be light roastLight roastRoasted just past first crack to preserve origin character: higher acidity, florals, and fruit, lighter body. The signature of Nordic-style roasting., in order to take this coffee to its full potential and experience all of the unique and lovely bright acidity, however if that is not your thing, don’t worry. This coffee can continue on in the roast well, and in opposition to following some of our direction in the Roasting Graphs provided, we are positive that you can’t go wrong experimenting a bit off the beaten path.
