Tasting notes

Character

Tastes Like: Raspberry, Strawberry Candy, Purple Flowers Origin: Jaramillo + Cañas Verdes, Chiriquí, Panama Variety: Gesha Producer: Peterson Family Farm: Hacienda La Esmeralda Elevation: 1,800 & 1,900 masl Process: Natural This lot is unique as a “happy accident” that happened at the Hacienda La Esmeralda's warehouse. It is a blend of two lots: Jaramillo Manantial 5NC from the HLE Nano line and Cañas Verdes Montaña 5BANC, which won first place in the 2017 Best of Panama competition, and would otherwise have been in the Esmeralda Private Auction if not for these two lots being accidentally blended during overnight processing and drying. Both coffees were originally processed separately as naturals and intended for the Esmeralda auction. They were dried slowly in a climate-controlled environment at low, stable temperatures. Most of the blend is from the Manantial lot, located in the highest section of the Jaramillo farm at 1,900 masl. The remaining portion comes from the Montaña plot in Cañas Verdes at 1,800 masl on the slopes of Volcán Barú. The final result is one of the most memorable natural coffees we’ve encountered, reflecting the combined characteristics of the two sites, and reminding us how an “accident” can lead to unexpectedly exceptional outcomes.
