The Karambi Washing StationWashing stationA central mill where many smallholder farmers deliver cherry for processing. In Ethiopia, Kenya, and Rwanda the station name (e.g. Idido) often identifies the coffee. supports more than 700 farmers in Rwanda's Nyamasheke District. Coffee farms in this part of the world are incredibly small, and washing stations serve the important function of purchasing, processing, and consolidating farmers' production into practical volumes for export. This is our fifth year buying coffee from Karambi and as always, we're enjoying its balanced acidityAcidityThe bright, lively, fruit-like sensation in coffee — praise, not a flaw. Citric sparkle, malic apple-crispness, tartaric wine notes; light roasts preserve more of it. and layered sweetness. In the cup we're finding flavors of papaya, apricot, cranberry, orange zest, vanilla, and brown sugar.
