Character
San Augustín, Huila, is the perfect place to grow coffee. Located almost precisely where the Colombian Andes splits into three cordilleras (smaller mountain ranges branching off from the main ridge – similar to tributaries of a river), the microclimate created and high altitude produces some exceptional coffees. In addition to spectacular coffee, San Augustin is home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site containing the most extensive collection of religious monuments and megalithic sculptures in Latin America. It is considered the world's largest necropolis. Before Rovira Muñoz purchased her farm, the land had been clear- cut into large pastures used to grow corn, beans, and sugarcane. With agricultural training and logistical support from InConexus (a specialty exporting company based in Bogota), she has dramatically improved the quality of her coffee.
