Origin: Kenya Producer: Thirikwa Farmers Cooperative Wetmill: Gakuyu-ini Factory Coffee Region: Kirinyaga Varieties: SL28SL28A Kenyan variety selected in the 1930s by Scott Agricultural Laboratories, prized for intense blackcurrant acidity and deep sweetness., SL34SL34SL28's sibling selection, also from Kenya's Scott Labs. Slightly less celebrated but hardier, with a similar juicy, complex cup.,Batian, & Ruiru 11 Process: WashedWashed processThe fruit is removed from the seed before drying, usually with fermentation and a water rinse. Tends to give clean, transparent cups where origin character shows clearly. Altitude: 1572 m.a.s.l. Flavour Profile: Rhubarb, Blackcurrant & Yellow plum Thirikwa Farmers cooperative has around 1600 members who deliver their cherries to the Gakuyuini factory for processing. The factory is located on the slopes of Mount Kenya at between 1600-1700 masl. The cooperative has an almost 50/50 split of female and male producers. Cherries are hand sorted by the producers before being graded by density. The coffee is fermented in shade for 16-24 hours before being washed in grading channels. Finally the coffee is dried on African beds for 21 days until the desired moisture content is reached. We buy this coffee from Nordic Approach.
