During our visit to his farm this year we learned that he is growing more avocado trees to provide increased shade as well as a secondary cash crop. Bernardo was in another line of work until his Father died and he inherited the coffee farm 3 years ago. Being relatively new to coffee, he has relied on the help of his extended family (The Morenos) in everything from growing to processing. The Morenos are long standing champions of good coffee in the area and their guidance shows in Bernardo's coffee. The majority of his crop is a variety called "Pacas", which we have come to really love for its African-like fruit notes that finish in chocolate. We will be going to visit Bernardo again this year and hope that this relationship will pass the test of time!
