Character
Bruju Finca , founded in 2015 in Pluma Hidalgo , a historic coffee region with a Denomination of Origin , aims to revive the area by growing high-quality specialty coffees. The region has faced a series of crises over the past 30 years, including low coffee prices, the 1994 peso collapse, Hurricane Paulina in 1997, and coffee leaf rust in 2014. Producer , Kyle Dromgoole , focuses on the sustainable cultivation of traditional coffee varieties such as Pluma Hidalgo, GeishaGesha (Geisha)A rare, jasmine-and-bergamot scented variety originally from Ethiopia's Gesha forest, made famous by Panama's Hacienda La Esmeralda. Routinely the most expensive coffee at auction. T2722 (Panama Geisha), Pacamara , and others. His production philosophy is rooted in regenerative agriculture, economic sustainability, and conservation of the Oaxacan cloud forest on his farm. We first cupped this incredible lot during our visit to Oaxaca in April 2024 , there were only 5 kg available… obviously, we bought it. For the 2025 harvest, we requested the same lot again , this time 60 kg , so we could share it more widely. The seed stock is of Panamanian origin, ensuring strong pedigree, and it was processed using a 72-hour lacticFunky / lacticTasting language for deliberate fermentation flavor: yogurt-like tang (lactic), winey or boozy notes, overripe fruit. A feature in experimental lots, a defect in classic ones. fermentation: fermented in a 2% salt solution, then dried as a black honeyHoney processThe skin is removed but some sticky fruit mucilage is left on during drying. Lands between washed and natural: more sweetness and body than washed, cleaner than natural..
