Historically, Tehuacán was a strategic point during the Spanish conquest, as a place where soldiers gathered, rested, and planned their next steps toward Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec Empire. Tehuacán is also a valley rich in ecosystems and history. The oldest fossils of corn were discovered here, being one of the crops that enabled settlement and the flourishing of Mesoamerican cultures. The coffee farmers who contribute to this blendBlendCoffees from multiple origins roasted or mixed together for a consistent, balanced profile year-round — the traditional backbone of espresso menus. live between the Sierra Negra in northern Puebla and the Sierra Mazateca in Oaxaca. In this region, growers typically manage farms of one to four hectares, cultivating coffee under shade at elevations between 1,000 and 1,300 MASL. They follow traditional farming practices and customs, nurturing a cultivation culture that respects and preserves the environment. The 70 producers behind this lot belong to Mazateca and Totonaca indigenous communities. From an Australian perspective, Mexico has become one of the most exciting coffee-producing regions in recent years. Access to, and information about, its diverse growing areas has steadily increased. Through our long-term partners at Caravela, we’ve secured two outstanding lots this year, each a heady mix of flavour, farm, and fermentation.
